About Peggy Hall

After suffering from years of shoulder tendinitis, Peggy was facing surgery and a long recovery out of the water. Thanks to her hubby's insistence to try yoga (yes, he got her into yoga!) Peggy discovered that not only did her shoulder heal but her surfing improved dramatically. Looking for a surf-specific yoga video but finding that nothing like that existed, Peggy set about to become certified in yoga so she could share the stoke of the life-changing benefits of the practice...and now, more than 10 years later, she has positively impacted thousands of surfers the world over who share her mantra, "Breathe - realx - focus - enjoy!"

I want to thank you it has been a pleasure to keep inspired from afar-I am living in rural Galicia close to fantastic surf and beaches having worked as an aerialist in circus for over a decade I have 'retired' here so am finding ways to continue physically but differently! Yoga has always been the base of my warm ups and I am developing surfer specific yoga by default of my partner having the usual spine curvature of a lifelong surfer.  I would so so love to come and do your course one day but until the finances allow I am enjoying your 'feeds' I went along to the local rural primary where my two boys are and taught them their first yoga class yesterday and today I am teaching the 'mums' whilst waiting for our children to do their swim class so who knows where it may lead but I do feel I need more training although I am only working within very definite limits of safety so yes please keep up the little bites of inspiration thank you

Well I have spent so much time doing yoga with you in my loungeroom I feel like you are an old friend! Haha, I have had your Yoga For Surfers II fluid power DVD for about 4 years now and just love it, I have dabbled with other yoga DVD's but nothing else is ever as good. My partner has also started doing it a year and a half ago and is absolutely hooked as well.


Also I wanted to thank you again for the DVD because after I had my first proper hold down by a wave (horrible feeling!) I started doing the 'increase your lung capacity' breathing exercises with you. Now when I get held down I am way more relaxed and I always think of your voice saying breathe, focus, relax etc and I am way more confident that I can hold my breath for the length of the hold down- it has made a massive difference to my confidence and stops me from panicking under water- I don't think there are enough thank you's in the world for that!!


So I just wanted to thank you! And both of our surfing has definitely improved from it as well, I have not been surfing for that long so I really really appreciate the help it gives me.

Hi Peggy,

I've been meaning to email you with how well the DVD's have worked for me. The Yoga for Surfers DVD's have been great. I was struggling with upper body strength issues. I'm a beginner surfer and was having trouble just pushing up. It was so bad that my arms would get tired from paddling to get on a wave and I couldn't push up as there wasn't anything left in the tank and that's just on white water. I couldn't manage a push up. Tried doing wall pushups to progress down to a full pushup and some tricep strengthening and several other exercises (my massage therapist's advice due to not having much in the way of tricep muscles to begin with). I was slowly making progress but it was painstaking. I didn't actually purchase the Yoga for Surfers DVD to help with this in mind but more for the yoga stretching and flexibility because a month before I purchased the set I shortened a muscle in my neck while out catching white water and had to spend about a month out of the surf to recover. I knew since I spend most of the day sitting in an office that I'd be prone to that sort of thing and once I'd recovered I swore I'd do something so that would hopefully never happen again. I'd heard about surfers doing yoga and it helping so I did a bit of a research online came across your DVDs and decided to grab the whole set.

It's the best thing I ever did - I got quite a surprise at how much it's helped with the upper body strength issues. I've made more progress in the last month or so than I have all of last year! I feel incredible, a lot stronger and more flexible and my arms in particular are starting to take shape! I can manage about 3 push ups in a row at the moment and I'm now standing on green waves I couldn't believe it - its only happened as a result of your dvd's so you won't believe how incredibly thankful I am they exist! I thought I'd never get there! I've only been doing the pre and post surf yoga sessions and am doing the yoga for surfers II every other day at the moment. I haven't attempted III yet as I've been waiting for my massage therapist to get back from holidays in case I do pull/shorten something. I don't push hard but I prefer the safety net. Now if I could just figure out how to turn on my surfboard I'd be even happier..haha Small steps hey!

Thanks for putting this series together - I'm sure you hear that all the time. You are definitely helping people like me achieve a dream of surfing and living a better lifestyle!

It has been great to have the DVD's during the cold snowy weather here in Virginia. My wife has been doing the yoga with me even though she does not surf. We have been really concentrating on DVD 2 with the venyasa flow and have not attempted DVD 3 yet. I wish  could do it every day but with kids it is tough we do it 2-3 times a week and will continue to do that even as we run each day we can when the weather allows. The water at the beach is only in the low 40's so I still have some time since I usually wait till it hits 50 to get out and I am looking forward to see what kind of difference this is going to make in my surfing.

Heya Peggy,
The yoga videos are going great.  They are helping me recover from a grade 2 hamstring tear I incurred while surfing in Bali last October. I have been back in the water, here in West Oz, since early January. I don't believe my recovery would be going as well without yoga. Indeed my surfing has improved with consistent yoga training. 
As well, I will now continue with the yoga post recovery. I am not sure why I stopped in the first place, as the benefits are tremendous. I enjoy the challenge your videos set down, especially yoga for surfers 3-I love and hate this one :) It provides a tremendous challenge and I am coming closer to completing all of the manoeuvres. There are two that I find particularly challenging as I lack the flexibility in my hips (surfing injuries adding up). I hope to gradually improve my flexibility and eventually get there. I try to do this particular video 1-2 times a week, as well as yoga for surfers 2, 1-2 times per week. The others I use when I lack the time to do a full routine or pre/post surfing or other excercise.
Anyway Peggy, thank you for your videos. I appreciate, greatly, your follow up. Should I have any questions or require some guidance, I will happily email you. For now, I will continue to improve and recover with your yoga specific surf training, and eventually get back to fully surfing my favourite SW Australian slabs :)

Thanks for your considerate email.
In short, Yoga For Surfers is going great!
Up until about 5 months ago I hadn't surfed at all for about 7 years (I'll blame work commitments for that one).
When we returned to the coast I bought another board and thought I could just take up where I left off. Wrong!
Not only had I not surfed, I'd become idle. During the first gruelling month I suffered continual neck, shoulder and foot pain until finally I was grounded for a month with a rib muscle strain.
There had to be an alternative to shocking my 54 year old body into submission. Then I came across an article by our local hero Mick Fanning.
Mick revealed how Yoga helped with his recovery after surgery on a snapped tendon in his leg, and how Yoga is now a big part of his training regime.
Add a bit of Google and there you were.

Hats off to you Peggy for a well presented and extremely beneficial set of instructional DVDs.
Other than the ever increasing suppleness of these ageing joints, I'm really diggin' the transition from an intense physical effort to ride my board - to just riding the waves again.

It is my complete pleasure to get your email and respond. I am enjoying the

yoga program very much and am definitely beginning to see the benefits,

thankyou. It was a bit hard to start, but it hasn't taken long for my body

to adjust. I am taking it slowly with an intention to advance to the things

on your 2 most recent DVD's.

I had known of your DVD's for years, but only recently purchased them. I'm

really glad I did. I am also stepping up the nutrition based on your advice,

which is a bonus.

Unfortunately, I live like about 100kms or more from the coast (west of

Sydney in the Blue Mountains at 1000m elevation)and tend to only surf on

holidays, say about 5 weeks/year. I turned 50 last month and I feel it is

more important not surfing regularly to have my body ready and in shape for

when I am at the coast. I have been surfing since I was 4 years old and it

has been the one constant and joy in my life. I want to retire near the

coast and surf as long as I can and I see your DVD's as an important part of

this and something I will do into the long term now I have started.

For exercise, I swim 3km's a week on average in our local pool which I am

intending to build up a bit. I no longer do weights in the gym as it is a

bit hard on the body (I was for many years until recently). I also do a bit

of RIP 60 and things with those larger rubber bands. I have booked a surf

boat trip to the Mentawai and Telo Islands in July this year for 15 days and

I want to be as fit as possible before then. I have had a lower back problem

since I was 21 that has been getting worse over the years. So along with

seeing a chiropractor for a few months at the end of 2013 , your yoga DVD's are an integral part of getting myself right for my trip. My back still goes out, but nowhere near as badly or for as long. So things are working and my back and body as a whole is getting better. Whilst I don't live near the coast or surf regularly, I am lucky that I have retained my fitness from my younger days when I was very active, so I'm still in fairly OK shape for my age.

Thanks again, and I think your DVD's are wonderful. Whilst we haven't met,

you both seem like such very nice and caring people who are happy and

successful in life.

I have been enjoying my YFS dvd series for a number of years now and I want to tell you again thank you so much for the time, effort, love and light you put into them. I live in a relatively small town on the East Coast of NZ and of course I'm a surfer. Last year I went to Auckland to attend a 5 month Hot Yoga teacher training. I had always wanted to do your training but it never fitted into what was going on in my life financially or otherwise. On return from Auckland I was involved in a motor vehicle accident which broke ribs and cartilage in my chest. Ironically it was all my yoga books in the back of my car which torpedoed through causing the damage. For the last 6 months I have been doing zero yoga and surfing while waiting to heal. The last couple of days I have recommenced my asana practice not with anything I was taught but with your YFS1. I love your style, flow and love that comes through it. I am not sure if I will ever teach yoga as the confidence I gained by doing the course has disappeared but you are renewing my passion! For that I am very very grateful! Hopefully I will be back in the surf soon also.

Things are good…I am really enjoying the Yoga for Boardsports as I didn't own this DVD before and it has some fresh challenges. I have found one of the best things about owning the whole YFS series is just what you described...the ability to mix it up and do different routines on differnet days!

Overall we are in the middle of summer here in Oz so for me my main things are to stay on top of my surf fitness so to be ready for when the random good swell hits but more so be prepared for the upcoming autumn/winter swell season. (This morning alone the tide was too high early so I did a long board paddle of the bay at Bondi beach followed by a quick pre surf warm up session for the YFS vol. 1 afterwards before heading off to do some work).

Like I mentioned before I am well and truly hooked on riding (and wanting to master) a surfboard after having chased waves all over the world as a professional bodyboarder so I am finding the DVD's very beneficial in developing strength and flexibility in the necessary areas that are surfboard riding specific.

Overall the main thing for me after having spent a lifetime in the ocean is that I have learnt that by keeping the mind mentally fit and prepared to face serious surf (because ultimately that is what I do enjoy the most) for when it arrives is key, and doing the yoga regularly be it just a quick session or a long drawn out has always been my main source of a confidence reassurance over the years.


Now with the factor of age I only see it as an even more integral part of my overall surfing experience and journey.

Hi Peggy. Just loving yoga. I definitely feel better. I have just started and absolutely love it… I can already feel the benefits after about one month of yoga.

In the morning I try to do a few of the exercises from YFS III. When I come home I usually do YFS II at the moment. I tried YFS III last night and did all three segments, I couldn't do alot of the hard core poses but really enjoyed it and will get there soon.

I am now instead of doing it everyday I do a 20-30 minute session 4 times a week usually when I wake up in the morning. But every morning I do just a few of the poses to warm up my body for the day for about ten mins.

I am still struggling with breathing side of it still like the conscious breathing I often forget to breath but slowly getting better.

I've been meaning to write to you to say thanks you for your hand-written note I received with my dvd pack - that was a lovely, personalising touch!

I actually purchased Yoga For Surfers 1 and Unleashed a few years ago, and had a year without them until I got the dvd pack recently.

I was introduced to 'Unleashed' by a friend and housemate to begin with, this was my first yoga experience, and I could not believe the presence of mind and body I felt whilst doing it regularly. I grew up playing Australian Rules Football, basketball, squash and distance running, until deferring to snowboarding and surfing - so I had some experience in training my breathing and agility, and while I could not initially complete all three 'Unleashed' segments, I felt comfortable stretching through the poses.

I experimented with several routines in the way of classes and other dvds, but the only one I felt i experienced a comprehensive and dynamic workout and cleanse was Unleashed. I trained with this dvd, generally doing two segments a day, at the most for two months at a time, and invariably would slacken off until feeling noticeably less energetic and pick it up again.

Before I go on, I have to say how fabulous a thing yoga must be - the only workout (I have tried free weights, circuit training, competitive sport training) that I've ever felt MORE energetic once I've finished! I have scoliosis and I really believe that if I can find a way to dedicate to, and continue practising, regular yoga, I will straighten my spine by strengthening the supporting muscles around it. I stand taller after each session and in times of consistent training have felt as though every single movement genuinely initiates from my core, and my awareness has been to use any part of my body as a component of its whole.

Continuing the training has been an issue, and I want to thank you for your previous email to this one that outlined some options for fitting yoga into time constraints, that has shed new light on scheduling yoga for me and I appreciate it so much! Prior to getting this pack, I had been determined to squash an hour a day in, around work/hobbies/other exercise, for the 'Unleashed' routine, and that was incredibly difficult to maintain. I am a plumber by trade, and trying to do it before work meant being up very early, after work was difficult from expending so much physical energy through the day. So I have taken on board your suggestion to do YFS 1 warm up in the morning and cool down before bed. I haven't reached regularity yet, but that tip alone is immensely helpful.

I think you have a real talent for presenting and communicating your routines. That is to say, I understand you have designed routines specific to board-riders and this is definitely appealing about them, but as I tried different routines from other instructors I found myself struggling to settle my body and breathing into a rhythm, and wondered why they didn't coach me through poses the way you did. A lot of them merely state the pose as it is performed, without further explanation, and with YFS (all of them) I feel like I have a much better understanding of how my body should hold itself and allow the poses to guide it. I think if you were to decide to create Yoga routines specific to any sport or lifestyle (Yoga for Tradesmen perhaps?), Peggy, your voice will be equally successful because you are an effective communicator, knowledge of the activity would be a secondary element. The other thing I like about your routines is the length of the poses, I like having the time to allow my body to find a sense of stability in a pose - rather than move on to the next before having settled into one.

Your dietary advice has proved very effective - high energy eating, I love avocado, fruit and nuts anyway so there has been little adjustment to make but I have cleared bread from my weekday diet and feel much better for it!

You tips on shoulder sense have me intrigued - my shoulders have clicked and popped for the last year now, and I am sure that continuing with yoga, not to mention more hydration, will eradicate this... the thing that intrigued me was what you said about THOUGHTS of strong and healthy shoulders…I couldn't agree more about the influence of thoughts on our physicality, all though this time around for me with yoga, the impetus for improving my health is to release physical stress and allow my mind to create the positive things I want...

In the meantime, I shall go now to do as much as I can of 'Unleashed' (the scorpion is one I've never successfully made) and hopefully the next time I write to you will have a bit of daily yoga under my belt. Thank you so much for your following up on your customers, it is a very generous and helpful gesture you make, I greatly appreciate it. And for what it's worth, thank you for your passion and positivity in your workouts, your upbeat instruction makes doing the routines highly enjoyable!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write and give us such great feedback -- we really appreciate it! What a joy to get your lengthy message; it really warmed my heart! Wow -- you really "get" us and what we're all about here at Yoga for Surfers, and your letter is so precious to us! This is what makes YFS so rewarding -- knowing we're sharing our passion with like-minded folks such as yourself! Sounds like you've had quite the yoga journey, and I must say starting out right with "Unleashed" was quite ambitious! So glad it did the trick in terms of assisting with straightening your spine and core and increasing body awareness in general. Isn't that fantastic?

It can be a challenge to try to fit in a proper "yoga class" in a busy day, so I find that doing a shorter session morning and evening (sometimes as an afternoon break) is more accessible. I think a lot of us tend toward an "all or nothing" approach to exercise, but often that just leaves us with the "nothing" when even a few minutes of yoga could really make a difference in our energy and outlook. Our latest videos also are organized into shorter 20-30 minutes segments that can be done mix-and-match.

Thank you so much for your kind words of support in terms of my teaching style and language. I teach the way I'd like to be taught, and I can't stand instructors who simply recite a memorized script without actually explaining or encouraging, so I strive to do both! Teaching is really my higher calling and what I love to do and what gives me energy! I look forward to hearing how the scorpion pose is coming along. That's one thing I really love about yoga -- there's always more to experience, and it gives you direct evidence of the mind and body working together with the breath.

Hi Peggy I am loving the yoga I do the pre surf routine every day and the Vinyasa flow when I have time or there's no surf

prior to starting your program I was starting to spend a bit of time at the physio with lower back and stiffness through the hips

I now feel so much freer and have no pain I have even gotten rid of that horrible neck and shoulder pain from long days in the water

I am 54 and feel like I am surfing stronger than ever We just got back from a 10 day boat trip in the Maldives spending 5 to 8 hours a day in the water no anti inflamitories required and kept up with the young guys. My only regret is that I didn't start years ago.

PS I noticed that you had a Dahlberg board in one of your DVDs I have a 7'0" pintail that Rod made for me and its a favourite when it gets big

Must be really awesome to surf without that horrible neck pain and shoulder pain. The only problem with us older guys is that they would sooner suffer rather than try something new men are not that smart ,but as they surf less and less due to injuries and lack of motivation I still surf as much as I did when I was much younger.I still ride short performance boards (6'0" 6'2" 6'4" etc)I love YFS

I just wanted to say a big thank you for your DVDs which I bought two months ago. I live in NSW Australia and recently moved here from WA this year.

When living in WA my dad had your DVDs and I used to religiously practice them during my uni days 4 years ago.

My practice has not been as often in the last 2 years so I bought your DVDs as I didn't have access to my Dad's here in NSW.

So today I checked the surf this morning and its small and needed to kill some time for the tide to come up and I was so excited to drive back home and do your yoga for surfers 2 DVD. I feel so good and energised and am so happy that I've got back into it.

Hi Peggy, well just on 2 months since the DVD's arrived.

For past 12mths I had been pretty restricted with a back injury and that led to everything else loosing tone & flexibility etc.

So I have started YFS 1 and mainly the pre surf and after surf session, 2-3 times a day when i can. Have only just got back in water 3-4 times.

I do find I have loosened considerably, still stiff early in morning but later getting quite good.

Am able to get quite deep into the poses now.

Have watched all the DVD's and will start trying more 2, 3 in weeks to come.

Interestingly, I have never done Yoga previously, however many of the moves are similar to what I learn't many yrs ago in Karate.

Obviously Yoga focuses on being much more kind to the body.  Too old for the fast moves now.

My kids, 7 & 10, watch and are getting into it, even my non sporting wife is slowly coming around and has done couple of sessions.

Who knows where it will lead.

All in all, very happy I found you and i really do enjoy your emails and tips etc.

I've been surfing for the past 10 years and this has taken it toil. Last year I pinched a nerve in my upper back and this has kept me off my longboard. I tried a physical therapy and acupuncture without any improvement and was heading for surgery. The my wife stumbled across your DVDs. They were EXACTLY what I needed. The change has been amazing. I love your positivity and zest for life. It's infectious :) Being out the ocean was a really difficult time for me but thanks to you I'm back surfing.

It is good to get back into yoga again. I started doing yoga in the 70's, and have been doing it on an ad hoc basis. Now I am in my 60's I really need it.

I have been enjoying a morning session before my morning surf. Gradually my body is becoming more flexible.

I have worked my way through yoga for board sports, disc 1 and I am now on disc 2. I intend to revisit all the discs.

Am enjoying surfing more as a result.

Hope you are well, you seem to be. I have been using your YFS DVD’s for at least 2 years. I am on LI, NY. They still are a great resource and I have also asked and received your advice on health issues in the past. My wife and I do some of the routines regularly. This email is especially good for me as I just had bad lower back pain for about 2 weeks. It is now getting better but I stopped exercise for about 2 weeks. My surfing went to nothing. Hard to surf when hard to stand up easily or gracefully.

I like the tips on back pain and will try some.

Can I ask: I stopped a calcium supplement because of negative reports( calcium carbonate). Would you suggest one? Maybe liquid magnesium.

I am 60 now. Maybe you should do a YFS for older people. I enjoy your info and it’s always a good help.

Hey Kevin, So glad to hear you've been enjoying the YFS DVDs! But so sorry to hear about the back pain. It can be so debilitating and actually the pain can make you feel depressed emotionally, too (especially when you can't get in the water!)

Great to hear from you! I'm loving the dvds. I do the Yoga for Surfers II at least every second day and the Yoga for Surfer III once per week. I feel so good... honestly, what a difference in my daily mood. It doesn't seem to matter what is going on around me because  deep down I feel so much happier and more *me*... in addition to the  physical benefits, I'm feeling so much more secure in myself.

Love it loads. I love the dvds peggy. Since last week I've been doing YGS II every day and it's really making me feel great, always exhilarated.

I'm preparing myself for YFS III - I will try it this weekend!

Thanks for the tips on breaking them up. The way you're doing it sounds great and makes sense.

Just a quick note to give you an update...

We have just finished 5yrs here in UAE and still loving it, except for the lack of surf, so we offroad in the dessert dunes instead, it’s a good mental reprieve from work.

Just want to give some more feedback, we just spent 8 days in the Maldives (our 4th time there… and will be back next yr)… although we had onshores the whole time compared to 1 or max 2 days on previous trips there were still good waves to be had and great to meet up with some best friends from NZ who met us there…

The set up where we stay is 2 boat trips a day 2hrs in water each session. So  am and pm surfs and if pumping can get a dawnie and/or after lunch surf at the resort (Lohis a great lefthander J )

The surf pool here helped for surfing cobwebs, taking off etc/turns but nothing for fitness, so this was dealt with at home in the pool and gym and some yfs (not as much YFS as I had planned to be honest) work was busy leading up to trip and Ramadan muddles the eating and drinking (not allowed to drink/eat at work and not in public even for non-muslims).

Surfing 20hrs in the first 5 days meant some bicep tendonitis, so resting up now…given no real ocean surfing conditioning this is not surprising….but my back and shoulders were fine no problem.

On previous trips I would surf the morning on boat trip, back for lunch, then a siesta (especially after a couple of days) back on boat for pm trip feeling more often than not tired and lacking energy but full of enthusiasm. Then from day 3 on wake up sore….i was stretching during the boat rides (20mins) out to the break.

This year, from day 2 on I did the YFS 1 post surf session after lunch, then headed back out feeling fresh and ready to go, also my shoulders/back were not tight form the am as they were on  other trips…Also no naps in the pm needed…this session was a good choice as not too long and not too demanding…

I certainly saw the direct benefits of your program and passed this on to others too…

Back to Lohi’s next year, only 51wks to go…lol…

I can't say I love the act of doing Yoga. I do love the fruit of doing Yoga though. Just yesterday I was paddling back out on my SUP and had to go over a shoulder high wall of soup. Usually I lose it and fall off, but this time I moved my foot to the rail, stayed relaxed and stayed standing and made it out before the next wave caught me. I instantly thanked God for bringing Yoga into my routine. I knew I made it cuz of Yoga.

I'm starting to get a routine down. I try to do the pre in morning after my hot lemony. I do the post at night when wore out. I haven't started tips #2 on as this is a major change in lifestyle. So I'm saving them and will bring them in later. Same with YFS after the one I'm using.

Some nights I'm just too tired to do the post session but I don't stress, I just get back to it the next night.

Should I be doing yoga every day?

I really like the DVD workout at home. You guys did a great job!!

I may not be having fun but I am convinced this is what I need for my next step in life, which mid to surf till I'm 80, and am trying to make it a part of my life.

I am still on Yoga for board sports. I tried yoga for surfers 1 but I need to get more familiar with all the nes so i can follow. i did like the flow of it and i am looking forward to advancing. im just taking "Baby steps".

First I'd like to say that I love your yoga for surfers DVDs; i have all three of them and they are great. I am still a beginner at surfing, only been at it for a few years (i was a division 1 collegiate golfer before that and always wanted to try, and then fell in love with surfing). I have gotten to travel to el salvador, the canary islands, peru and other places; so exciting! (And I'd love to come to one of your yoga/surf retreats sometime)

Anyway, I faithfully did the hot lemony for the last week, which i'm especially proud of as i am on the road for work very often. I feel very good and really think it has been doing a great help with my digestion and energy. I surfed the last 3 days on a short vacation to san diego and i had good steady energy

Oh Peggy!  We JUST did the yoga for surfers II and then we went on to watch every detail on the dvd which has so much more that we realized. Then pulled up this email.  It is a gift to hear your voice, see your face and especially be taught by you...the best teacher of my life!  Also to experiece your enthusiasm and expertise of yoga, and especially your valuable words of wisdom around the best life has to offer...from overcoming my gimpy arm with your yoga practice that seemed to be customized to meet my needs, to feeling so much love from the people at your yoga studio...it was a life changing experience.

I have used the post workout a number of times before I go to bed as a wind down and I really fell the benefits.

Being a super keen Australian surfer who has recently been re-located to Monaco to live, I don't surf like I wish so am hoping that your program, combined with my other exercise will assist me in keeping in Surfing Shape for when I do get the opportunity to surf.

I know when I stick to a regular routine I feel a lot better, but sometimes we let work, family and lack of sleep get in the way.

Hello!!

WOW! This email could not have been more perfectly timed! I grew up in the Daytona Beach, FL area on the beach and surfed for a good majority of my life. I recently moved to Tallahassee for school a year or so ago and missed the beach/surfing immensely. I bought the YFS series to keep me limber and prepared, mentally and physically, for whenever I did get the opportunity to visit my old stomping grounds and not come off as a total kook. With all that said, I went back to visit just this past weekend and lucked out with having a BIG swell come through, compared to Daytona's typical smaller sets. Not being very tall, 6-8 feet swells look intimidating and not to mention not having surfed in 3 or 4 months, I was hesitant about going out. Finally, feeling confidant that my balance and core was still up to par from practicing weekly with YFS, that I would charge it. Boy, was I right!!! It felt as though I never took break. I had an amazing session, catching over headers, great lines, barreling, super fluid cutbacks, hell I felt like I was surfing better than before!! Afterwards I did some of the post surfing/recovery stretches, in hopes of not being too sore to go out again tomorrow or later that day, and felt as though they helped me significantly to recover.  All this leads me to say that YFS is AMAZING and I am very happy with my purchase! The fact that you sent an email when I first ordered and now with a followup makes this product even better. Thank you for these excellent videos and introducing me to the world of yoga!

The YFS DVD series is great. It helped me surf more vertically on my backhand. I got rear ended about a month ago, not too bad, but it set me back a few weeks. Fortunately, I was not hurt seriously, but have a slowly improving pinched nerve in my neck. Chiropractor seems to be handling it well. I am about a week away from getting back to my yoga cd. I am stretching and actually already doing some of the poses. I am mountain biking now and could surf now too, but I am taking it easy for another week. CD is really good for me. I am a busy 47 year old lawyer who is Catholic, so I appreciate the fact that your tape isn't judgmental about people's beliefs -- more of a universal feel to it.

Hi Peggy!

I'm loving the YFS dvds, at the moment I'm just sticking to the YFS1 and Board Sports discs and I love that they have short little segments so it doesn't feel like a chore to fit in a couple of sessions a day.

I'm just a beginner at surfing but since I got my own board in January, I have been managing to get out 5-7 times a week and yoga is helping keep me limber and lets my new surfing muscles recover enough to hit the waves again the following day.

My favourite segment so far is the YFS1 Post-Surf session, and I'll admit I sometimes do that a couple of times a day because I really like the flow of it, and it targets the muscles and joints that need the most work :)

I have also been using the yoga sessions as a time to reset my focus and strengthen my determination to keep on trying, even on days where I have had more wipeouts than good rides– the mental side is probably even more important than the physical!

Thanks for taking the time to see how I'm going, I'm sure as I continue on my surfing quest things will fall into place, and I will let you know how I go with the more advanced discs in the YFS series.

Really appreciate the additional tips and I'm getting a lot out of the YFS DVDs. I haven't even started on YFSIII yet. Every aspect is helping with my surfing. Warm ups are great - ready to go from the very first wave instead of catching two or three to get going.

I have a thirteen year old son to keep up with so YFS is great for that. Any tips on how to get him into YFS would be great.

Since getting YFS 3 I have enjoyed taking on some of the more challenging routines and find the variety of excise fun.  My son has a go too.

At the moment, i have only started using the YFS1 and Board Sports, as i'm still trying to increase my flexibility and stability, but definitely loving it. I do alot of cycling and running and I'm finding this is really helping with reducing my muscle strain and tightness, I have even started incorporating some of the stretches into my post-workout stretch routine. I look forward to trying the more advanced sessions soon and enjoy reading the email updates and tips from you from time to time!

I also think it's great you try and make each customer feel important and valued through emails like this!

Many thanks for sending me your teacher training emails, I find they are a very interesting stream of thoughts that apply inside and outside a yoga studio. For example, before I do a presentation of our weather routing that we do for deep sea ships to shipping firms, I try to bring the focus that I use in Balance postures to the meeting, so people listening to me know that I am connecting with them. There is so much more I can say, and it is just a question of time that I began to teach.

I am based here in NJ, 56 years old and have been surfing since I was 13. For me the aloha spirit is more important than catching waves, and this is something I try to pass on to the kids while teaching them to surf.

I look forward to meeting you one day.

I am a beginner surfer and am really having difficulty popping up on the board for a couple of reasons. I'm 54 yrs old with a short torso and long legs!  And I live in Florida where the small waves break on shore so we have to jump up fast for a very short ride!  Nonetheless I keep trying and I know one day I will be surfing easily and effortlessly as I continue to do yoga with you!  
I am also a yoga teacher who does not actually teach because there is one on every block here in South Florida.

It's Andrea here, I actually ordered your CD's but I'm starting get my husband John very slowly a little bit interested too.

Just to give you a quick update. I have been going to Yoga classes for about a year. I really enjoy your CD's. I find the yoga for board riders is great before and after a surf to warm up and cool down.
If I want to have a full yoga work out I enjoy yoga for surfers 3 the most, even if some of the posture are a bit too advanced, but I'm getting there.

Hi Peggy / David,

Both my wife & I have started using this, we are new to yoga so starting on the boardsports sessions, have done these 2 times, first was both sessions and second we just did the second session.

We both work long hours and use the gym a few times a week, so my plan is to do yoga sessions on the day between workouts, which really helped stretch everything nicely…and yes its amazing how free I felt after the session yesterday…early days but sure my inflexibility will improve…. We also do a lot of offroading in the sand dunes, fast driving big dunes, lots of bumps, twisting etc, so we will try also to do a short session after our trips when we get home…

For me surfing here in Dubai was actually just 8-10 days a year in the Maldives where I went from 51 weeks not surfing at all to 4-5 hrs a day for 8-10 days straight and felt like I had been hit by a bus by day 3 J now we have a good wave pool, 2.5 hrs away so will get there  once or twice  a month for a couple of hours surf each trip, which is about 25-30 waves if you paddle fast and pool not too busy…early starts seems to work to reduce number in the pool..so sure the yoga will help in the pool too. I usually strain my foot near the ankle and feel it dong cutback and reo’s etc so feeling these stretches/poses will really help with this..

Will tell my surfing mates back in NZ about your dvds too….

I just wanna tell you that this is the first time that I do yoga regualy and I absolutely love it! My back used to be soar but it feels so much better thanks to your exercises that I do every morning. I can't wait to see how my surfing will evolve with this.
 
Your yoga really makes me relaxed and gives me a great start at the day so I can barely wait to challenge myself with some more poses. Until then, I just wanna tell you that you are a great teacher. :)

Our whole family uses the yoga for surfers dvd.  We have used this dvd for past few years but our last copy was ruined. Sorry no response I am a minimalist, very little technology.  I own three business where I live but too busy during the day to reply. I love the video. I am a dedicated yoga practicer.  I owned a surf shop when I sixteen and it as been my dream to surf. I live in northern Ontario.  Lake superior (largest great lake) is a newly discovered surf area for us. I am heading out on my first surf vacation. Your video is a great combination of yoga and surf. I have never surfed.  Heading to la saladita Mexico on Tuesday.  Finally 16 years later! YFS has been terrific so far.  I have been using the videos since October and really look forward to my yoga sessions.  Generally, I use the stretching portions (usually Post Surf on YFS I) after my surf sessions.  On non-surf days I will generally work on one of the segments on YFS III or the Fluid Power Yoga on YFS II in the morning before going to the office.  On weekends when the surf is down (not unusual on the NH seacoast), I will combine some of the segments on II and III to put together a longer workout.  I always end any segment with shavasana.  I find that I lose less strength and stamina between surf sessions since using your videos.  I also feel that more consistent yoga (I used to only practice once a week at a studio) really helps my overall health.  I feel healthier and handle stress much better.

Thanks for your e-mail, sorry I haven't replied sooner but I have been very busy with work and I'm building my own house as well so it has been a busy (but not too stressful) time.

I like to say a big "Thank you" to yourself as the yoga dvd's have been such a good help to me, and I have only been using the yoga for surfers 1 and yoga for boardsports pre-ride sessions for the past 2 weeks. I do them in the morning before starting work and after only the first 4 days my back was been feeling about 10 times stronger.

I had a pulled lower back muscle about 18 months ago and had pretty bad spasms from that which went away after about a week but since then I haven't had much confidence in my back and have been waiting for it to go again. My work is really physical with a lot of climbing so your yoga dvd's have been a great help and I honestly feel a lot more confident and happy with it already, which I can only assume will get even better as I progress.

Thanks again for your help and also your excellent customer service, now I'm just waiting to get a break from all this work to go and catch some waves, which should be very soon.

I do appreciate the videos with the stretches, always good to get new information.  I have been a proponent of yoga for some time now, sometimes I practice it more than others, but it's been in my life since the early 70s.  In July of 1972, I broke my neck (compound fracture of C6 vertebra) surfing; luckily my spinal column did not move otherwise my life might have ended that day as I most likely would have been paralyzed from the neck down and would have drown.  While I was recuperating (6 months), I had limited mobility and started to look around for ways to keep in shape and keep my mind and body "moving".  I found that vehicle in yoga.

I am enjoying the stretches and your approach to intertwining surfing and yoga...

I am really enjoying Yoga for Surfers and find I am feeling much more balanced in a general overall sense. I moved away from the coast almost 2 years ago for work and don't get the chance to surf very much at the moment but I plan on moving back to the coast in a few more years. I didn't want to waste the years away just wishing and waiting to get back so I thought I should try and improve myself with the time I have away. The idea is when I do get back I should be in better shape then when I left and can hopefully still improve my surfing and keep surfing well to an older age than I would have without looking after myself (Kelly Slater, Taylor Knox, Tom Carroll, and many others are definitely proving you can keep getting better). This is where Yoga for Surfers comes in.
 
I was always interested in trying yoga because I knew a lot of surfers do it and find it beneficial but never followed it up. Since moving away and not surfing much I needed to find something to halt the regress of my surfing performance and found your yoga DVD collection on the internet and thought what have I got to loose.   
 
In combination with the yoga I also do resistance training (which I've always sorta done) some cardio and some surf specific balance, rotational core movements. As I said I am feeling much more balanced overall and I think the yoga is playing a big part in that. I have also found some niggling little injuries are improving and feeling much better. After moving away from the coast I only get to surf occasionally and surfs are generally months apart. When I did get the chance to surf before starting the yoga I felt unstable and reactively slow and felt like my surfing was progressively getting worse with every surf. I have found on the few surfs I have had since starting yoga I feel much more balanced and in tune straight away so I am very happy that the downhill spiral of my surfing performance has stopped.
 
My wife who is a non-surfer is also following your yoga program and is feeling much better for it.

Hi Peggy,

I have been doing the yoga for surfers vol. 1, focusing on stretching and flexibility.  Once I became familiar with the routine, I found that stretching became more fluid and more relaxing to complete.  The poses have assisted in relaxing major muscle groups and I have found that I do not suffer from as much soreness after a long session of paddling.

As time has gone on, I have also found that I use the dvd as a form of unwinding after a day in the office.

Dear Peggy and David,

Your yoga series has helped my kids and I physically, mentally and spiritually as we surf and enjoy life. The breathing sequences at the end of YFS2 have given us our energy back after every paddle out and my daughter was able to use the deep ujayi breathing to stay calm and strong during a violent shark attack she endured this March.

We are at the beach every day and have become increasingly alarmed about the hours of poor posture that our young lifeguards endure in their tower seats. One day, I finally started a conversation about this and before you know it, I got the approval to do a trial of yoga for the guards and beach patrol officers who are all subjected to numerous injury producing assaults on a daily basis, the worst of which is the hours of sitting with very poor posture in the towers, and the hours of sitting with spines twisted towards a computer and heads slumped forward while working on the computer in the patrol vehicles.

I wanted to offer them some laminated sheets of exercises they could do throughout their shifts in the towers as they are permitted to stand up and get down to "stretch".

Could I purchase about 20 of your laminated presurf workout sheets for this project? I'd like the lifeguards to have them at their towers.

We want to help them discover the healing powers of yoga, physical and mental benefits of yoga and offer them a way to enjoy longevity enjoying all of their sports long after they retire from rescuing others.
We have ordered your DVD's so they can take turns signing them out to take home or even incorporate at their stations when they choose.

It's good to know how to breathe the right way. I don't do the whole dvd's, just pick out a few of the moves and practise those and keep mixing them up.

Hi Peggy!

In the past few weeks of practicing yoga for surfers; my lung capacity has increased, I've gained a great deal of strength, I'm not as sore or tired either! It has been a great experience that I plan to continue for a lifetime and share with many of surf buddies. My allergist and swimsuit seamstress  are hooked now too.
I have enjoyed the calming and healing benefits of YFS so much that I have introduced it to my roommate, my kids, and a few other very interested family members as well.

I love the stretches! Some of them I've never tried before, but the more I do them the easier it gets. I feel more confident on my surfboard, and in my overall day to day living. The first wave I caught since incorporating YFS, impressed my sister, who is a fellow surfer, yogis, & former competitor. I love it, and enjoy sharing your website and tips with others I know on the East Coast. The Wahines on this end have a hard time in the line up too.

hay the dvds are great..
i am just doing board sports yoga ..post ride most off the time...
i have busted both my ankles before an prolapsed a disc in my lower back..
i have difficulty doing some of the poses  ..iam only doing them till the likes off my hammys
start to go tight..would you recomend any poses in particular..
my ankles are ok ...my back has to be looked after....
i surf an snowboard...an even better our mt opens this weekend in nz..
keen as for any ideas you have...
i have been doin yoga for 3ta 4 weeks now...an are feeling way more relaxed

Now the truth is Peggy Im a 64 year old non surfer (watched Jaws as a kid) and learning to surf and gain confidence in the ocean is on the bucket list along with many more mountain treks where I am in my comfort zone. Do you include male dinosours in your surf retreats? I dont mind if I dont progress past the laying flat on the board stage.

Yes the benefit's are starting to pay off already. Im very stretched  for time but find the dvd's are a great stress relief after a busy day and also a great start to the day. Iv'e recently started using the Yoga for Boardsports DVD and Im really enjoying it. My flexibilty when Surfing is increasing dramatically, it feel's good to be nimble again on my board especially when performing tight turns.

I am so very grateful I found your yoga for surfers dvds!!!  I have had a very stressful few years and surfing has been the only thing that has kept me sane and now I have the yoga for surfers dvds too.  I'm 37 and I got to a stage in my life about 5 months ago where I just felt like I really needed to start looking after myself better... physically, emotionally and spiritually.  It was strange, it felt like my body was trying to tell me to do it .... (which in the past I had ignored and ended up with chronic fatigue amongst other problems!) So I became vegetarian and cut out junk food and lost 15 kilos.... then about 2 months ago my body started telling me it wanted to do yoga and being a very keen surfer I wanted something specific to my sport and remembered reading an ad for your dvds in a surf mag many years ago, so I got online and ordered them straight away and I'm so glad I did!!  It just feels right to be doing the yoga for surfers routines - it makes me feel so good I wish I'd started years ago.  Since starting your dvds my muscle tone, strength, flexibility and stamina have increased - I've also lost another 9 kilos!  The other week we had some good swell hang in for a few days and I was able to surf 4 days in row for a 3 hour session each day,  I haven't been able to surf like that for years!  I really look forward to my daily yoga sessions and switch between the yoga for board sports and yoga for surfers 2 (vinyasa flow) dvds.  I've only tried the yoga for surfers 3 a couple of times, I still find quite a few of those moves a bit too challenging but I'll keep trying.  I recently put my back out and haven't been able to do any yoga for 3 days and I'm missing it so much already and cant wait to get back into it.

Thank you so much for making these dvds and for your positive energy and vibes.  Seeing you do what you love and what feels good for you makes me want to get off my butt and do the same.... hopefully one day I'll get myself sorted but in the mean time I'll keep surfing and keep doing the yoga for surfers dvds and hopefully some of your good energy will rub off onto me.

LOVE your DVDs. I am not a 'go to classes' type person so have really enjoyed using your DVDs at home. Definitely had some good progression working through 1, 2, and 3.

Work as a Paramedic and have found yoga has been great for both conditioning and relaxing after long night shifts!!

I have been preparing for a Maldives trip in May and Yoga for Surfers has been a great contribution to my training, along with surfing (of course!), swimming and walking up steep hills!!

I'm really enjoying my yoga experience and i'm trying to fit in at least 15 min to 30 min of yoga a day. I have a really busy job and a 6 month old baby so finding the space and time is sometimes tricky! but the good thing about the DVD's is that they have given me some really good exercises to get on with wherever i am.
 
I went on a family holiday / surf trip 2 weeks ago to Cornwall, UK and the surf pumped everyday. I made sure i did a 20 min warm up and 20 minute warm down after every surf and really felt the benefits. My shoulder felt pretty good too (i have tendonitis) and i surfed for approx 3 hours a day for 9 days.
 
I'm still on the first 2 dvd's and will be moving onto the next dvd's soon.

Hi Peggy

I have just ordered another of your yoga for surfers DVDs for my niece.  I first ordered the yfs 2 and 3 DVDs about 4 years ago for myself, and just so loved how they so much helped not only my surfing but also my running and tramping fitness.
 
I have got most of my family hooked onto them and they have been fantastic birthday and xmas presents.  So good in fact that when my oldest niece left home to attend university her younger sister would not let her take all the yfs DVDs.  So for good family relations i have ordered another yfs 2 for my older nieces birthday.

I have also managed to get my husband hooked on yfs.   Being a good surfer but a very typical kiwi bloke he would watch me doing my yoga but would comment that it was not active enough exercise for him. Well it all caught up with him when he had to have the rota cuff in his right shoulder operated on 7 weeks ago.  His recovery was OK but not going as fast as the physio would have liked.

So one morning after his run he came home and decided to do the spinal warm up of yfs 2.  That was 3 weeks ago and now he has almost full movement back in his shoulder and the strength starting to build. He loves his yoga and always comments how really tough the work out is how hard some of the poses are.  He is keen in a few more weeks to start doing parts of yfs 3.

Being able to change any kiwi blokes hard headed attitude is such a testimonial to your amazing yoga routines Peggy.  I love them and really enjoy all your emails.  It is fantastic to hear the success of your yoga career.  Keep up the great work and good luck for the year ahead

I still enjoy surfing very much, but I don't have the flexibility of a twenty year old.  In the past year, I've injured my lower back and shoulder, so the light bulb went on telling me I need to take care of this body if I want to continue surfing. I've been doing the yoga for board sports and taking the time to stretch muscles and become more aware of keeping my back, shoulders and core healthy.  Yoga is a something can help my surfing fitness and I am getting more aware of proper posture and general fitness as well.  I am 54 years old and hope to surf another 20 years.

Hi! I recently got your DVD series “Yoga for Surfers”. It’s great. My wife and I are currently doing the “Yoga for Board Sports” and alternating with another popular yoga routine. I love the movement and the program quality  is super. Nice music, good visuals, good workout, and beautiful scenery(relaxing). I wanted to follow up as I contacted you about my back pain slowing me down while surfing. In addition, this is starting to have a positive effect on my general flexibility and conditioning. It’s funny that although I’ve been doing yoga for a long time, your program showed me how stiff I was in certain areas. It’s being worked out now. We look forward to working through the rest of the programs.

They are really increasing my balance, flexibility, and strength. You are a “master” and I love your knowledge and what the program is doing for me.

We're really enjoying it so far.  We're mostly using the YFS 2.  I'd like to try the YFS 3 but I still find some of the poses in YFS 2 challenging, so I didn't want to get too far ahead of myself.

I Just watched your new video on america now! I've really been getting into the gluten free and my sisters obsessed with it now, she says she's never had so much energy! I found a mat by the way (after a whole day of trying to find one in perth!), its a woven reed mat made in vietnam.
I'm embarking on my journey tomorrow around australia, and plan to take lots of gluten free muesli, long life rice milk, and dried fruit and nuts.

I have a friend thats a really good surfer, she got in the top ten for the hottest 100 girl surfers in Australia a few years ago, and she had to spend two or three months out of the  water with back problems! I did a few yoga sessions with her (with your dvds) and she ended up getting the whole set for christmas. shes been doing pilates and she said the yogas been working better for her back.
I bought your yoga for surfers DVD package a few years ago and it has changed my life, I currently had a knee operation and have been doing yoga religously once I regained enough fitness.

I am now starting on the DVD nr 2, as we have winter here at home (although
I have been out in +5 degrees Celsuis 3 times this week!!)

hi peggy nice to meet you:i'm from the south west of france,hossegor,and surfing is all my life;i've been doing it since 30years(turning 45 this year) almost every day(like a pro);and you know the damage of intense surfing does on the body;i'm also an avid bikram yoga addict for 10 years but always had a doubt about all the backbends in yoga in general;indeed ,as the surfer spends hours lying on his board with the back and the neck slightly like a backbend,i don't feel it's good for us:i'd rather do tons off forward bendings

Thanks Peggy - Isn't it mad that we can forget how to breathe!  I've only just started the stretches but can feel the difference already. I live near Coffs Harbour (Northern NSW Australia) and will be spreading the word to my other surfing mates..We're all in our late thirties so are realising the importance of improving our flexibility! These post session moves feel great even though this morning's session was fairly tame with only 1-2 ft swell.

My name is Marjolaine Poulin,  I have been introduced to the Yoga For Surfers video by one of my friends and it changed my life. I am a 31 years old french canadian and I now live in a great surfing spot in Elsalvador.
Surfing has been a work in progress over the years and I figured by now that it's probably never going to stop, it 's a constant battle and acheivements, like yoga.
Since I started following the yoga for surfers 2 and 4 on a regular I basis I  feel that my body has never been so FIT and so well coordinated. I Thank you too for the health tips through the newstetter, it's nice to get advices and encouragements from somebody who I feel is sincere. It's rare these days.  I've been sharing your videos with people over the past years and I tought that it would make you proud to hear that there were many happy people who followed me through vinyassa flow this morning looking out at the pacific ocean.

I have been slowly getting into YFS 1 doing it at my own pace. It has helped me losen up at the begining and end of the day. Unfortunately I haven't been in the water for a few weeks. Doing the Paddling Power exercises and I have found it has helped releive the soreness in my right shoulder. I will certainly start mixing and matching different segments. Never thought about doing YFS before bed, but will give it a go.

I am enjoying the YFS disks that I purchased from you. The settings for your instruction segments are beautiful and really distinguish YFS from other yoga instruction programs.

Having practiced yoga off and on for several years, I certainly appreciate the benefits to body and spirit. You are an excellent instructor and the guests that you feature on YFS-1 are great. I've started YF Boardsports, and am anxious to check out the other two disks also. My only observation from the YFS-1 video is that the pace of the various poses seems just a little fast for me. I appreciate the fact that you probably intend many viewers to incorporate the poses into their own practice outdoors. So for introducing and demonstrating the poses, the pacing is probably spot on. I plan to practice the routines using the video program indoors during the cold Michigan winters. So I may need to keep the remote handy to hit Pause now and again.

I am very pleased having discovered YFS. You and David are providing a valuable resource for folks around the globe. Thank you!

I checked out some of your segments on the America Now program. Really informative--you're a natural tv personality. Congratulations on that gig and all things going forward. My regards to David.

I am enjoying the benefits of Yoga for surfers
Since I have started Yoga for surfers I am recuperating quicker after surf sessions
When I do yoga after a long session & I go out the following day I do not feel the muscle soreness & tightness that I used to feel.
I also can have longer sessions
I have found the conscious breathing has helped me a lot, especially on big days when I am paddling back out out.
I get out the back centered,  calm not flustered & out of breath
This helps in catching the next wave much quicker as I don't need to rest as much between waves
I have found the Best 5 before you ride card useful, do you have the equivalent for after you ride?

As you might know I live in Holland and it's pretty cold down here right now, so there's not so much surfing going on. Luckily i have my other passion; Yoga.

I've been practising yoga for a long while but always in schools. Until I found your dvd's. Now I practise from my own attick with great SURF FOOTIGE to inspire me and enabaling me to still watch the waves and the ocean.

Your dvd's and your energy bring me two things;

i feel better in my body and mind
i am inspired by how you where able to combine your 2 passions into a way of life/and job so that you do can what you like most!

Also the special features with the other surfers are so inspiring because these are all people WHO ARE from there centre, true beeing. It makes me want to be TRUE and BE connected to my passion and live from there.

So thank you, my body feels great, i try to let the mind go and be centered. I try :)

I wish i was born next to the sea and live with ocean view and surf all the time... but maybe then i wouldn't have appreciated the sea so much... So thanks for the great dvd's and good vibes, it brings the sea closer to me, AND i feel great about the workout!

Thank you for emailing.  Good timing too!  I was doing yoga for surfers 1 last night and telling my wife that yfs 2 would be a good Christmas gift.  She was checking my email at the time I received your note below.

I have been interested in yoga for a long time, but have never stuck with it long enough to see the benefits.  However, I am now a firm believer and forever changed because of your program.  It is amazing how quickly the body responds, and it is very plain to see the positive effects of yoga.

My practise is going well.  My body is opening up more and more, I am able to breath into the holds and positions much better, and some old aches and injuries are starting to resolve themselves.  It is wonderful!

Thanks again for the email.  It is very personal & encouraging, and is rare to receive these days.  Keep up the good work.

Hi Peggy,

I am really enjoying the DVD's and my yoga. I do the pre surf warmup before most surfs and when there are no waves (which has been often lately!) I do the fluid power routine. Like you i had a shoulder problem, ostiopath said all the paddling had got me "muscle bound" which was putting pressure on the nerves in my neck and shoulders, after a fiji trip in the middle of last year it got so bad I couldn't go in the water. The yoga has definitely helped particularly those positions that pull my shoulders back, still have some "crunching" in my shoulders but certainly feeling a lot freer.  
Its certainly more of a work out that I thought it would be, but that is a good thing, have done the 3rd DVD a few times its a great workout certainly felt muscles l didn't know I had the next day.
Anyway thanks for the follow up, i have got a few of my mates into it as well, and bought the DVD for a mate who lives in LA, who has had similar shoulder problems.

Just wanted to say thank you. I have been practicing the Yoga routines from your collection for the past month, and am really happy with the results. Am also appreciative of your online tips.

I am 55 and surf about 4 - 5days a week. I was finding my strength and flexibility were not so good as they once were.

Although I had tried Yoga at several stages throughout my life, I always quit as the pressure to perform certain poses in a group situation did not agree with my chronic neuro injuries, and I ended up not only in pain, and sometimes unable to surf while I recovered - very counterproductive!

Also in a large group,you are never sure you are doing the poses correctly and therefore gaining the desired benefit.

This is one aspect where your DVD's wins hands down over classes!

I really look forward to my Yoga sessions now and see myself continuing on. Yoga and surfing go hand in hand as far as I am concerned.

Peggy, I have come into an amazing part of my life and an essential reason for this abundance has come through learning yoga; for which I'm so grateful for your 4 dvd's.

I work away from home in the mining & construction industry in the Australian outback for a few weeks at a time between surfs so being able to put on your dvd's in the evening is fantastic - and keeps the stoke alive.
My lovely lady and I have both been steering toward a mostly raw food diet. This has opened us to some wonderful flavors and health benefits as well as the joy of discovery that comes with researching and being involved in something fresh and positive. Much as we are with yoga.

I'm off to Indonesia in late October so I'm sure to score good waves - and hopefully miss most of the crowds.

I have stayed with this for 3weeks and now I am going to start yoga for surfers 1. I suffer from back pain and I have noticed that the pain in my lower back has completely gone. Recently I did a surf trip into the wa desert and was not able to do any yoga for a week, I noticed my back pain coming back. This reinforced to me the importance of regular yoga every day.

I have so enjoyed your emails with tips and insight into the world of surfing! I am 54 y.o. and have been doing yoga daily for just about 8 years. This past year I have learned to meditate. I am an RN and work a very stressful job. For the first time in my life I would like to do a "joyful" job. I have worked two jobs almost my whole life and now I find myself with very little in material way other than my job. I have always wanted to learn to surf and am an aquarian-so naturally I feel most comfortable on the water. I live a block away from the mississippi river, but it is not the ocean. I so manifest living near water and doing some type of employment in wellness and integrate yoga into that through a gainful job. You story peaked my interest and I have learned much from you emails. Each night I ask the universe to guide me to where I should be, hoping it will be by the water, surfing and doing yoga.

I think your videos are great; your clear understanding of both surfing and yoga comes thru and resonates with me. My surf buddies never knew Tom Carroll or Brian Conley did yoga in fact until I showed them your videos they thought yoga was kind of weird and I think you have made believers of them.

I’m 44 and have been surfing since 1984 this wonderful thing we love to do have taken me to some of the most amazing places around the world.

I live on the ocean in Nova Scotia Canada where peeling points similar to Rincon are just outside my door “literally”. I plan on opening a 600sqft yoga studio this fall out of my house. I hope to teach, gentle yoga, flow yoga and ashtanga yoga and Yoga for surfers. I would LOVE to take your teacher training course next year or to do a workshop.

I'm loving the yoga dvds thanks! I'd never tried yoga before and found the 'yoga for boardsports' a really good introduction to the basic positions and I've continued to use the relaxation routine from that to wind down in the evenings when I'm staying in.  I also have just tried out the yoga II routine and was amazed at how invigorating it is - it really gets the bloody flowing and I can feel how it will really give me strength for my surfing when I next get a chance to go.

Hi Peggy, Thanks for introducing me to Yoga !!! I cant believe how great yoga makes me feel it really is brilliant and has improved my breathing dramatically.
 
Ive been reading your weekly wellness tips with great interest and especially liked the one about upping magnesium intake to help with aches and pains !
 
And have stopped taking anti inflamatory pills with a focus on improving what i eat.
 
This has really given me some relief from my chronic back injury ( which may be ligament related) It has been a very frustrating injury to have as it means i dont surf nearly as much as i used to because arm movement tends to cause inflamation.
 
However since i have upped my magnesium intake thanks to your advice !! i have been able to do more yoga and light gym so hopefully il be back in the water soon.

Beyond the tips I am doing, manly drinking limon in the morning and some exercises as well I am starting doing some poses from de DVD´S, I have felt better now, when I wake up something tell me that I have to do some exercise.

You have a very kind open and healing attitude.  I appreciate it.  I have been through a lot of trauma ... Doctors said I am permanently partially disabled from my accident and I would never pick up a child and never surf again.  I have had a lot of healing over the years, I pick up my kids, even though it hurts, sometimes but I do it.  I will also prove the doctors wrong and surf again.  Hoping to not be a total kook out of control, cutting people off but rather strong and balanced.  

I believe visualization is very important to healing and I spent years visualizing the pregnancy and all the good things that have come about.  Thank you for spreading happiness, hope and healing to others.

With so much negativity in the world it is a great joy to meet someone who is like minded about encouraging others toward healing, strength and wholeness.

The pre-surf session on the first DVD has literally saved my body from pain during my current pregnancy. I was a surfer, skater, and triathlete before, but for the first five months of this pregnancy, I had constant nausea and suffered the greatest weight and muscle loss I've ever had. In month 6, the nausea subsided, but I had no muscle tone left. Plus, constant back pain and pelvic pain kept me from even taking my dog from a walk. I started doing the pre-surf session and within a week my muscles started to bear weight correctly again and I've been feeling SO much better!

As a side note, I work at a primary school. I started doing that yoga routine, plus all the others on the 2 DVD's with my kids (ages 5-8), and they absolutely love the routine. Just thought I'd pass that along!

Having purchased many yoga and pilates dvd's I have been stretching and honing my flexibility for a couple of yrs. I have also been to studios to do yoga.

All this came about after breaking my back in three places surfing. I was told I would be in a wheelchair by 50 and not to think about surfing again. Ha they did not know me or my mind.

This was 9 yrs ago. I was fortunate to pick your yoga for boardrider about two months ago.

I was skeptical as other forms of exercise did not help me at all. I could surf but had to have down time due to the pain.

One week after doing your sessions in the comfort of my own home I was rapt. I do your yoga 5 times a week and incorporate it with walking, surfing (which i do 7 days a week conditions permitting.)

The difference in my body is amazing.

I have since acquired all the copies of your yoga dvd's and to any one else out there who are questioning its suitability, don't waste any more time, buy them or just one.

After nine years I can cross my legs sitting on the floor. A small step you say, for me a huge milestone. A wheelchair at 50, I don't think so -- I am 50 this year in April. You don't need to spend loads of money, you can work in your own home take it steady and watch the results.

First and foremost I want to say thank you. I have been in yoga for a long time and am a surfer. I have encountered many teachers who have lacked the skill of teaching and style of your videos. I go to many different schools and I find that you still are a better teacher and I enjoy the flow (From position to position and skill levels) that you've created for your dvd's. I live in San Diego and am looking to get my teaching certification. I don't know if you teach at a studio or have any direction that you can give to a school that has your talent. If you have any suggestions or do teach I would love to go to a few of your classes. I just wanted to write a brief email to thank you for making your Yoga for Surfers 2 dvd.

I am a mum of two small children (3 and 1 years old), and I stopped surfing during both pregnancies just for my own peace of mind. Consequently, I have found myself a little out of condition and have been suffering with a lot of lower back, shoulder and neck pain. I purchased your dvd only two weeks ago and I have already noticed a difference in myself. I've done the whole workout most days since it arrived on my doormat and I'm sleeping better, feeling less stressed and I haven't complained about my neck in over a week.

I thoroughly enjoy doing the yoga workout and, unlike with some other workouts I've tried previously, I require no persuasion or motivation to do it.....my body and mind just want to do it.

Two years ago, I tore three ligaments in my neck on a bad wipeout a few miles north of Mavericks. During my time out of the water, I started doing your Yoga for Surfers as rehabilitation after never doing yoga before. Attached is a picture of me doing crow on a shallow reef in Egypt. So, as you can see, I got really into it and with your DVDs as guidance, I have loved yoga ever since - it helped get the flexibility back in my neck and got me prepared to paddle back out and I've been doing yoga ever since.

Hi Peggy! Loving YFS, started off on the Yoga for Board Sports and now have let myself 'graduate' to YFS1. I'm a really fit girl, I swim, surf and do a bit of cardioboxing but i felt as if latey my body hasnt been responding the same in the water. After a few yoga sessions i realised that i was really tense and needed a good stretching program. I have also felt that my shoulders have become a lot more open and that the YFS counteracts all the swimming and paddling i do (i have started to get a bit of tendonitis which YFS has helped with). all in all im a very happer camper with the program and loving the fact that i no longer try and rush to a yoga class whose aim is relaxation! love the music on the dvds too, and the visuals, its really soothing and inspiring

I thought I would let you know how much I am continuing to enjoy YFS 1 & 2. My partner, Spring, who is 55 has started joining in with me and he has already found that it has made his surfing and snowboarding much better. With his surfing he feels his jump-ups are stronger and faster, his turns more fluid, his floaters more stable (even though the water is cold in NZ just now with it being winter) and in his snowboarding he feels his knees are more able to take the strain (he has had a knee reconstruction a long time ago and has never felt that it was really strong) so much so that we both entered our first Masters snowboarding boardercross comp at the weekend and he won his age division!! So thank you for the difference YFS is making to our lives. I love it for the extra calm and peace it adds to my life while going through the poses.

I find myself using your pre surf chapter every morning as a general wakener and motivator. Also your after surf chapter later in the day or before bed. I am getting through some long term hip issues that are requiring a variety of treatments (osteopath and deep specific stretching) Your DVDs are although creating a base for me to learn from and helping me with the realization that I am approaching a new beginning and yoga will basically be the platform that will allow me to get back to my best in my surfing. I love the yoga for surfers programs! I recently was injured while surfing (I cut my foot open on the fin and needed nine stitches) and I also live far from a beach and can only surf a couple of times in the summer. I am so excited that I found this program so I can recover and stay in shape until the next time I surf. I love surfing so much and wish I could live by a beach and surf everyday, so hopefully this program will keep me focused and determined to continue to surf even though I’m not very good and at times get discouraged.

I really like the pre-surf section and I already felt better the first time I surfed after doing those poses beforehand. Also, my husband said he wouldn’t do yoga on the beach with me and was totally doing it yesterday morning when we went out! We had done it at home the morning before we went surfing and I think he realized that’s it’s very similar to the kinds of stretches he’s more familiar with, and more importantly I think that the way you present it on the DVD is what made doing the yoga poses more acceptable to him. He’s not macho or anything, I think he just has (or had) a misperception about what yoga is and his initial reaction was that he didn’t want anyone to see him doing it.

Anyway, thanks again! Maybe we’ll see you on the water some day and thank you in person!

You are so right. i have noticed the difference in my surfing when i do and dont do yoga, it is amazing. Unfortunately it is quite hard to convince people that it is good for surfing (especialy guys).Thank you for the freebies, i have saved all together and use them as one of my routines.Windscreen wipers and the horse are both excellent .

I do my yoga before work in the mornings as it releases my back. i still do your yoga for surfers 1 at least once a week, especially the post surf routine and the focusing excercise on big days!

Good on you for holding your own in bigger surf!Unfortunately there are a lot of big egos in surfing and i think it could do with a mellower/femenine/less agro touch.My local break at the moment is Porthtowan in Cornwall, England.My girlfriend and i are saving up for a round the world trip.I learned to surf in the Eastern Cape in South Africa .Sardinia Bay and Jeffreys Bay being my favourites.(I shared some amazing waves with TK out at Albatros one morning!)

So, thank you for reminding me how important  Yoga  is and good luck with all your endevours.

Peggy, I'm 55 overweight and don't sleep very well, so in the night I went through your exercises a couple of nights in a row and to my surprise I slept longer than I have in a while. so now that I've been doing the streching for a couple of weeks I can't believe the difference. I'm now on a quest to change the way I eat, I'm drinking the Lemon drink in the morning instead of coffee and I think I have more energy all day long. Who would think I could feel better just doing a couple of exercizes a day and I don't surf, well not yet. Thanks for being there!!

I've watched volume 1, 2 and 3 already and I'm currently following the vinyasa flow routine in volume 2 about 3 times a week. I mix that with 3 sessions of swimming (1.25 miles each session) and 3 sessions of running (6.25 miles each session) to stay in shape for my next surf session which will not be for another 2 months. Volume 3 is a little too advance for me at the moment but I'm hoping to get there in time to come. I'm just not that felxible.

Yoga for Surfers has suddenly got me very intersted in yoga and it does wonders for my posture. I can feel myself slowly getting slightly more flexible and more well balanced little by little. I can feel the slight improvement with every session of yoga.

However, I can't tell you what it has done for my surfing because there is not surf here in Singapore. The next time I'll hit the water will be in August when I make a trip to Bali, Indonesia to get some good surf. You have no idea how desperate I am for some surf but till then, I wouldn't know how yoga has helped my surfing. I'll let you know when I get back from Bali. I'm sure I'll return stoked and wanting more.

I only recently started doing yoga, primarily for my back. I was in three car accidents when I was younger, and I have struggled with back pain for about 15 years. The pain really put a damper on my surfing ability. Prior to the last accident, I was a pretty good surfer. I lived on the beach in Newport and went surfing pretty much every day that there were waves. After the last accident, I often had times where I just did not feel like surfing, even though it has always been the greatest passion of my life. I never quit surfing, but instead of going every morning, I would go 4-5 times a month. Needless to say, I really got out of shape.

Since I am not fond of taking medication as I believe it only masks symptoms or often does worse things to your body than not taking anything, I decided to give yoga a try. In just a few weeks, of doing just a few yoga poses, and not even a full yoga class, the pain was virtually gone. I rarely have back pain anymore and I sleep better and can breathe more deeply. I have also noticed the confidence that you mention while in the surf. Since yoga helped with the back pain, I wanted to see how it would work for helping my surfing, so I found your site and immediately signed up to get your emails. Since I did nothing about my back pain for years (other than complain about it like a big baby), my total body flexibility had seriously deteriorated. But, just as yoga fixed my back pain quickly, my total body flexibility is also increasing rapidly.

I was also really stoked to see that Brian Conley is in your videos. I am a huge fan of the "My Eyes Won't Dry" videos, and it was an interview with him that made me look into starting yoga. After seeing his movies, he has become one of my favorite surfers and I really aspire to be a better tube rider.

I think Yoga for Surfers is great. Aside from just the videos, I think it's a brilliant business concept, very long overdue. I'm glad that you and your husband had the vision to do it. Yoga for Surfers, has not only helped me feel better physically, but has also inspired me to start thinking about entreprenuerial ventures that I can do to hopefully add something to the surfing community and eventually make a living doing what I love.

I wanted to tell you that the latest yoga for boardsports is great as allways! I am going to forward the e-mail to tons of people in hopes that it can be a part of their lives like it is mine. I continue to be almost pain free from my pelvis injury!

On a personal note I finally left Omaha after my father passed away and made the jump to Hawaii where I am getting in the water and begining my life as a surfer. I know that the confidence that I get from the videos "you have the power to live your dreams" has helped me make the jump and leave a world that was comfortable but not satisfying at all. I am trying to lose 60lbs and I am half way after 3 months of working out, stretching, and using your yoga stretches. After 8 years of no surfing and putting on 60 lbs. I finally said enough is enough and started working out again so I can get back into surfing. I really love your stretches and I have found the breathing and ankle stretches very healthful so far. Really I like them all but those really stand out since I have weak ankles (after years of football abuse) and find the breathing exercise real healthful for all of my work out. Thanks.

I have been doing the pre-surf yoga each morning before work for the past couple of weeks and am finding that I have a lot more energy throughout the day.  I do the post surf session most night before going to bed.  Whilst I am discovering many sore spots I am feeling more rejuvinated and sleeping more soundly.  I had my first surf since doing the yoga last Friday and already notice a difference in my surfing particularly my paddling.  On the weekend my 5 year old son joined me in doing the pre-surf session and now all of us are doing yoga regularly.  I have a very stressful job and for the past few years have really been surviving on adrenaline.  This is obviously very exhausting.  The yoga is helping me break this cycle.

About 6 months ago I broke my neck here in China.  I had a fusion of the C5/C6 vertebrae and a disk replacement.  Not fun and kept me out of the water during our best surf season.  My recovery has been slow and painful and most mornings I feel about 10 times my age.  A few weeks ago I started doing yoga again with you on YFS II and it is amazing how much better I feel.  I can only do the warm up as I still have a lot of residual nerve damage and muscle atrophy, but, it is better than nothing and is preparing me for the Vinyasa Flow which I hope to start soon.  I like the way you talk on your DVD’s, it is very personable and I feel like I am doing yoga with a friend - although I have to pause often to keep up with you!!!  But, that is to be expected.  The Typhoon and south swell season should start in another month and I hope to be back in the water at least on a longboard.  I am indeed lucky to be walking and to have found YFS.  Thank you for helping me recover.

I'm definitely feeling the benefits of consistent yoga practice. Since ordering your dvds about a month ago I have been sure to set time aside each day to practice. It has helped immensely with my flexibility, range of motion and posture. I can say with confidence that I am surfing better and much looser as a result of yoga for surfers. Also my shoulders feel more secure in their sockets and this weird popping noise that was going on in my knee is gone. I also seem to sleeping better as well.

Aside from the physical benefits, I would say that I have also experienced mental/emotional benefits in that I am less anxious and more motivated to get out and be active (I also climb, skate, and mt bike and love playing pick up sports).

It can be difficult to find time to pursue all the activities I like but your recovery and warm up routines on the yoga for boardsports has decreased the amount of time I need to recover in between, and I am able to do more of things I love as a result.

Thanks for getting me started on the yoga journey, I know its a long road but I'm not in any particular rush :). I will let you know how things continue to go, and I am sure the benefits only get better with time!

The Yoga For Surfers series is great, even better than I was expecting. As with many people finding time to practice yoga is the hardest thing, but with the way you have set up the DVD's I can find something that suits for a 20 min, 40 min or one hour workout. I particularly enjoy volume 2 and try to do the whole thing at least every second day.

I have a friend here who has taken a deep interest in yoga and even completed a 2 week training seminar a few weeks ago. As a dolphin trainer here, he earns about $10 per day and I know that the YFS program is not something he could afford. I have been sharing my DVD's with him (every week I let him borrow one) and he came into our yoga class last week declaring, "I LOVE YOGA FOR SURFERS". Of course only I knew what he was talking about but then he told everyone about it. He's like a walking advert, he has so much energy and enthusiasm about yoga itself I didn't think he could get any more excited about anything. But there is no doubt, he is definately in love with your program.

I am really enjoying the program.  Living in an area where surf is less than consistent (Boston) it is great to have something geared toward staying in surf ready shape while its flat, or I jsut can't get to the beach.  On top of that, it has been great strengthening and stretching my back and neck which I injured snowboarding.  The variety between the three videos is excellent.  It is refreshing to be able to mix it up, and build toward some of the more challenging exercises in YFS III.  My wife has been watching me and can't wait to join me after she gives birth in June.  She participates in the low impact stretching and minor strenght moves in the videos now, but is excited to try to lose her pregnancy weight using the full program.

It's Joan Scudder and I promised I'd write to you after my month trip to Florida and let you know how the surfing went.  It was awesome!  I had been doing the Yoga For Surfers DVDs along with my yoga classes to get ready for the trip - no surfing here since September for me, and I was in great shape!

I warmed up with the pre-surf session before surfing and ended each afternoon faithfully with the post surf session which kept the muscles loose.  I am a novice but have run and windsurfed regularly for more than 25 years.  So with the help of the DVDs, I was able to get up on my 8'6 easily (which I was still struggling with last summer and thought the board was too small) and have so much fun for 20 days on the water.  Thanks again.  The Yoga For Surfers are a great treasure in my life and I also love the wellness tips that are emailed.

I had ordered YFS I a couple of years ago and have been doing it off and on during that time due to a couple of different reasons.   Recently I started doing it on a consistent basis, 4-5 times a week in the morning, and have noticed a difference in a couple of aspects of my life already.   Not only do I feel more physically fit, I have always worked out with weights, but now I feel my flexibility is improving and my entire body just feels looser all day long.  Plus, starting the day off that way gives me a nice boost of energy, and a nice calming feel to approach the day ahead.  My main motivation to start up again was that I have an upcoming surf trip to El Salvador which I will be surfing with Shane Dorian, and with not getting much time in the water the past 6 months, I really wanted to find a way to help prepare myself for an entire week of surfing and not surfing like more of a kook than I already am.   I just started with YFS II and really enjoy it, and I have been incorporating the breathing techniques into my normal day which helps with the daily stresses of life.   Thank you for just making each day feel better, but for also preparing me for a surf trip of a lifetime.

The program is awesome having a bad back from being a framer for many years. I already had a daily stretching routines .Which has now been replaced by the yoga warmups.This with the rest of the routines have definitely stretched my body beyond what I had been doing before. I injured my back several years ago ejecting from a Navy Fighter (F-14 Tomcat) - since then my wife & I opened a therapeutic massage clinic, (massage therapy has helped my back tremendously) but I have been frustrated because I can't play sports like I used to. One of my doctors recommended yoga, but it never seemed interesting to me. I have wanted to learn to surf for a long time now (I used to skateboard and snowboard when I was younger, before I was a fighter pilot), so this video has inspired me. If it works for me I will send you an awesome testimonial. I hope it does! Thanks for having a cool website and what looks to be a phenomenal video.

This is by far my favorite yoga video, and I have tried a lot. I have been doing it every morning and I feel great throughout the day! hi, well my diet has always been pretty good, sometimes it would slip at the weekends, but the main difference for me has been the yoga, i was in the royal navy for ten years and became a bit of a gym freak, i also surfed, since leaving i now work for national grid and my day consists of digging.....a lot. The yoga dvd 1 and 2 for surfers are brilliant and i feel so much more relaxed in body and mind, i especially enjoy the 2nd so thank you very much for introducing me to something i would of never thought i would of done.

I am really enjoying the Yoga For Surfers box set. Having never done anything like Yoga before I am having some early problems with the poses and the speed but it is getting easier and easier to each time I use the DVD's.
 
I'm really pleased I found Yoga For Surfers. I've been surfing for the last 16 years and over the last few years with lifestyle, job and family stuff my surfing started to regress. I needed to do something new to re-energise myself and start enjoying the ocean and surfing again. Yoga For Surfers has really given me that boost I needed. It's helping my surfing which i'm really happy about, but its also helping me be a better husband and father. I couldn't be happier.
 
As I use Yoga For Surfers more and more I'll be sure to see better and better results in the water and in everyday life.

I have all your Yoga for Surfers DVD's and love them.  This last purchase is a birthday gift for one of our employees, we all did the pre-surf warm up together before starting work and alot of our crew loved it - not only for surfing but before physical work.
 
I have had back pain for most of my life and have been taking pain killers before heading out for a surf.  I have found your yoga / surf DVD's extremely helpful with my back issues - the Vinyasa flow in particular!  Thanks for all your help and inspiration, can't wait to read "Heal Your Back".  It's great to see you in the DVD's so strong and fit.  I am 40 and determined to stay fit and strong and look after my back so I can surf in any waves well into my 50's and beyond.

Hi Peggy,

I've only done the video training 5 or 6 times but each time I'm able to get deeper into the stretches and better at a few of the more difficult positions.  I have definitely adapted some of the stretching and breathing to my pre surf ritual.

It definitely helps me calm the mechanism and focus on one thing at a time which is VERY big for me.  I think 13 years in a corporate environment has created a multi tasking monster that really needs to be grounded.  Practicing yoga will definitely be in my new lifestyle.

Hey Peggy & crew,

I have got right into the first video and am practicing some routines every day with some noticable improvement in my lower back.

Breathing is a good routine and I find myself raising my arms and breathing in thru my nose all the time now. Also the routines while surfing to get energy are good.

Surf has been a little sluggish down here this summer, no tropical cyclones yet (normally have 1-2 by this time) but we still have Feb thru Apr before the warmth goes.

I have really enjoyed your Yoga DVDs and use them every other day. I have had a chronic back injury for a couple years now and feel the yoga is helping me gain more flexibility and movement in my lower back--where I need it most. I also think the mental aspect of yoga is so refreshing and allows me to get a similar feeling of calm as I do when I surf. I love the Vinyasa Flow. Thanks again and keep up the great work!

I'm loving YFS 1 & 2, alternate them depending on how I feel but can feel myself getting more flexible and stronger even though I have only been using them for 3-4 weeks! The format is so good, the tempo is perfect making it easy to follow and keep up with the moves instead of having to start and stop the dvd as I have found in other types I have used over the years. Excellent! Thanks so much for the time and energy and your belief in your dreams to make this possible for others to share.

I received my Yoga DVDs, Yay. Thankyou. And have done the yoga for surfers 1 which is great. I have been focused on fitness and health all my life and took up surfing at the age of 30 (thanks to my husband) and I realise there really is only one way I am going to be able to continue this sport that I love and thats doing Yoga. Its brilliant. I do a class at my gym but its great being able to do it at home as well. So once again thankyou and Happy Surfing.

The Yoga of Eating is an excellent inspirational  tool for conscious eating.  I have been enjoying all of your nutrition information.  I was a fitness instructor for 25 years and still attend Jazzercise classes and work out 5 days a week.  I am now in my mid 50's and of course am experiencing some age related changes in my body which I am trying to deal with the best I can and your information is a wonderful aid for me.  Keep up the good work you are doing. I ordered a copy of yoga for surfers for my brother this year because he is beginning to feel the effects of tightening as we get older! He spends 7 days a week in the water either swimming, surfing or on the water kayaking.   Last year I gave a copy to my very unflexible husband who always balked at yoga because he thought it wasn't really a workout but he loves it!  I think I bought it at either REI or a surf shop in Santa Cruz.  Thank you for your great workout.  Happy Holidays!

I've been practicing yoga for about 6 years, surfing for 8 years, and I wanted a DVD of surf yoga that was more challenging than the original Yoga for Surfers.

Hey Peggy, Yeah loving it, i surf most days but on the days off I find that i use yfs3 to help build more strength on my core, my over all flexiblity has improved loads and feel better out in the surf.

The program is great.  We do a lot of running too and find that the yoga really makes a difference in lengthening muscles that have contracted from running.  It's a shame we can't mail order some waves for summer too!

Hey Peggy thanks for your concern. I love the dvds I have been doing number 2 now for several weeks and I can already notice a huge difference. I thought I was ready to step it up to #3, till I popped it in and almost melted. I'm living in Nicaragua and the humidity is sometimes too much. Tonight I did YFS #2, but it was really humid and tough to keep it going, I found myself wanting to do childs pose, usually I have no problems. I like your DVDs very much and since I got them, I`m doing Yoga every day! I really got into it and already bought a book about yoga History and stuff like that. I want to visit some courses ... Maybe you can help me with that. I recognized, that the world of yoga is very big. And I`m not sure if I got the right books and which courses are good. You got some tips for me?
About your program: I feel very good after doing your program. It makes happy in a very special way. I get calm and focused and satisfied and my body feels just good. I have been having some difficulties with keeping up the regularity, and my initial target is to do the sequences at least three times a week and, of course, do the pre-surf session every time I get to surf.

I LOVE the Yoga for surfers, it is the best yoga program I have found on dvd yet and it really does make a difference.  I was practicing yoga almost everyday for a month before going surfing in Tofino BC and it did help me.  I have to admit lately I haven't had as much time to spend practicing but I hope to get back to it again as it definately helps with flexibility, strength and helps me to centre myself and calm my mind which I need.  The temperature is changing here in Whistler and snowboarding season will start soon enough and I look forward to seeing the benefits and how the yoga for surfers will help me with snowboarding.  Many pro snowboarders here in Whistler also practice yoga.

I´m a surfer from the island of Sylt in Germany and I´m also a big fan of your yoga dvds.
A couple of years ago me and my girlfriend started practicing yoga on our SUP boards and it was great. You can sit in the middle of the sea, the most relaxed place on earth, and find inner peace and balance. In contrast to a normal surboard, on an SUP board a huge variety of different poses is possible.
I have also practiced "Aquilibrium" (that´s how I have called it) with some of my patients (I work as a psychologist and Anti-Stress-Trainer) and the feedback was very positive.

Your videos are the best yoga videos I've found, regardless of whether you surf or not.

I had been away from practicing yoga for a few months and developed osteoarthritis in my knee from a previous injury. It got so bad the Dr's left me with only the option of total knee replacement. I started practicing with your videos again, and my knee pain has mostly vanished. I hadn't noticed how out of alignment my hips had gotten.

Practicing yoga has re-aligned my body, and may ultimately help me avoid major knee surgery. I'm looking forward to using your latest video to add variety to my workouts.

I know you're heard from thousands of people about
your videos, but I wanted to add my thanks to you for
creating the YFS series.

I'm 55 years old, was a competitive surfer as a
teenager, and have always suffered from sciatic pain,
especially as I got older. I've tried everything
western medicine has to offer to correct the pain but
nothing, even daily doses of morphine, could eradicate
it. It would get so bad sometimes after surfing or
exercising that I could barely walk or drive. But I
refuse to be a couch potato! My pain was worst at
night making it almost impossible to fall asleep -
sober, anyway.

As I started understanding the connection between
nerve pain and shortened muscles, especially the
glutes, I decided to try yoga. In April I bought your
first DVD and enrolled in a twice-weekly yoga class.
The class is challenging, but your DVD allowed me to
do the yoga at home and learn it faster. In addition
to doing yoga before and after surfing, I've been
doing the Post-Surf Session routine every night before
going to bed and it has been a lifesaver.

I do the routine without the DVD now and slow the pace
down to really dwell on stretching the leg muscles and
glutes. This 30 minutes of yoga each night has
transformed my evening routine from a desperate search
for pain relief to a relaxing, meditative experience I
cherish. With the lights low it is the perfect
pre-sleep routine. And, yes, my surfing, mental
outlook, and overall fitness continue to improve.

I bought the second DVD and will undoubtedly get the
others, but I just wanted to thank you for the
peaceful hours of sleep I get and the renewed
flexibility and vitality I feel.

Luckily my in-laws got me the entire Yoga for Surfers series which have helped me heal and strengthen my back since herniating two discs almost 3 years ago surfing Puerto Escondido. I had been to doctors, chiropractors, acupuncturists and massage studios and nothing helped get rid of the pain as well as Yoga. All I have to say is keep up the good work!

I'm still enjoying the YFS dvd's so much. Using them often and also using some of the exercises when doing other sports (e.g. running). 

I used to do ballet academy as a teenager and I find a lot of similarities between yoga and my dancing classes. I enjoy both surfing and yoga so much, but as I'm living and working in Amsterdam at the moment, I thought it's a good opportunity to do a yoga course. I am even dreaming about doing a teachers course some day, just to take my own yoga to another level, but also to maybe teach yoga during traveling on different surfing spots.  

I can't explain how much I enjoy combining yoga with surfing and I really want to do more of both in the future.

Fortunately I'm actually surfing quite a bit here in Holland. Whenever possible I try to be in the water. And I have some trips planned for later this year. Going to the Canarie Islands in October and to Florida (US!) in December.

Hi Peggy!!

Just wanted to drop you a line and say that I've had the opportunity to use YFS II and have lent it to a lifeguard named Matt at my local beach break who takes me out on occasion.

So after the two of us practiced it at our own pace the results are in and there are now two VERY happy surfers :) The breathing techniques have been amazing, I really feel that the more I do it the more confidence I have when I paddle out. Matt (who has asthsma) and I agree that the bonus breathing section was the highlight of the dvd for both of us.

The dvd is definitely what I was looking for personally and I look forward to getting the third one myself.

I work for a SoCal fire department. We have a mandatory physical fitness program. A couple of guys were getting ready for a surf trip to Indo and they were using YFSII as part of their workout. After making fun of them, a group of us gave the routine a try, the combination of core strengthening, balance and flexibility is just what this FatOutOfShapeOldGuy needed to maintain and improve his back health.

Brilliant!

Thanks for the effort that goes into the routines. I have gone to yoga classes for a couple of years now and they are some of the best routines I have done, and definitely the best way to practice at home. As well as my surfing and snowboarding my rock climbing and running have definitely benefited from regular yoga practice.

A good friend of mine that started his own board company came across your videos while living, surfing and making surfboards over in Ireland. When he got back state-side he told me about it and although I found it interesting I didn't really investigate any further. I saw your ad in Tracks surfing magazine years ago and purchased your first video. Great stuff! Love the backdrop as you go through the postures, both calming and meditating as a surfer of over 30 years with that in the background. I thought it was about time I upgraded to dvd not video. Dear Peggy and David,   I heard about the Yoga For Surfers videos from Netflix. I been wanting to do yoga for awhile and thought I would netflix it...among many other videos for yoga, Yoga For Surfers came up. It caught my eye since I surf, also that there were 3 different videos so assumed there would be different levels etc. I rented them and loved them, Peggy does a great job in explaining things and talking you through the moves. She is very encouraging, down to earth and has a soothing and relaxing voice. Even as someone new to yoga I was comfortable and able to "catch on". The music is great and the surf clips are awesome. Just a quick note to wish you well in the hope that you, family and friends remained unscathed by the devastating fires.

In case you need cheering along, I thought I'd tell you about my Dad, who's 75, a keen runner and at least once a month does some sort of fun-run between 6-10 miles and annually competes in a half marathon. Just over a year ago, he went to the doctor because "something was wrong...he was getting breathless running uphill". There was nothing physically wrong, but Dad knew that something wasn't right: the breathlessness caused quite alarming whoops and gasping noises!

Anyway, I showed him your powerful breathing techniques, which he has practiced every day since and the breathlessness or, more the point, the desperate noises went away.

Hello,

Friends of ours have the set and lent them to us to try (Sam surfs, I don't). We both find your dvds the best instructional yoga dvds we have ever come across, with the added bonus that Peggy focuses on poses aimed at surfers, although I get just as much benefit from them.

We find the pace, transitions and poses are all perfect for what we have been seeking in a dvd yoga set. We even prefer your set to classes, as not only are the workouts exactly what we are looking for, but we can do it at our own convenience, a huge bonus in our busy (read hectic) lives.

We are both often tight in our upper backs due to jobs that involve not only a lot of desk work but also contain much driving around, we have found running through YFS 1 even if merely once or twice a week completely remedies this tightness for both of us.

We have found YFS 2 to be a great workout which has proven fantastic when there is no surf (for him) or as a general workout for me. I'm yet to complete this one, Sam is much fitter than I -- he runs and does weights most days and surfs on top of that -- and he was a trembly sweaty mess at the end of it. That said I'm sure once we have our own copy we will be able to master it in a few weeks/months and be ready to tackle YFS 3, though I doubt we will ever be able to make it look as effortless as Peggy!

I bought the second set as a gift to give to friends (he surfs, she doesn't; he has traditionally 'bah hum-bugged' yoga but is now interested due to our, and our friends, own enthusiasm for your dvd set).

We have another friend who has copied his YFS dvd tracks to audio CD so he can take it traveling, and practice your yoga when there isn't a TV or DVD around - he knows the dvd back to front and just uses the audio CD to prompt him through the poses. I thought I'd mention this to you, just in case you hadn't thought of the potential for an audio CD/MP3 in your merchandise range.

Apologies for all the the gushing, but we really are extremely pleased with your dvd set!

I'm looking forward to trying YFS! I live about 10-15 minutes from Galveston island, and have been surfing the gulf coast for the last 20 years. Not exactly a surf trip destination, but we get waves fairly consistently.

In any case, when it's flat, I usually jog, lift, and ride my skateboard. My sister has been doing yoga for10 years or so, and she has been trying to convince me that yoga would be much better for my strength, endurance, and flexibility. I ran this across a few of my surfing buddies, and one of them told me they got YFS last Christmas as a gift. He said it was a great workout nd recommended that I try it.

I want to take a moment here to let you know I have been working with the Yoga for Surfers I video since March and this week I had a breakthrough into being able to do most of Yoga for Surfers II, (after some unsuccessful attempts). It was a red letter day for me. I absolutely LOVE these videos. They are by far the most enjoyable yoga videos I've ever owned. The background scenery, the surfing footage, the yoga poses, the wonderful music, You, David, Taylor and Rochelle, all of it -just wonderful! I look so forward to this part of my day. I wish I were living in Hawaii and surfing and doing yoga every day. I currently live up here in Washington State and am just taking Kite-surfing lessons. Had a friend who works at Huntington Surf & Sport lend me the video about a year ago. I was having major problems with my knees for about 5 years, spent thousands in doctor and therapy bills, had four shots of cortisone and was very depressed. I'm only 33. I'd been to a yoga class, but it felt like an aerobics class. I prefer being solo in my home. Used the video, fell in love with it because it didn't make me
feel dorky, and used it daily for months. I was able to rid my knee problems because of it by becoming more aware of what was going on in my body and how it affected my knees. I have volume three, but needed two so that I could replace the loaner copy.

Please let Peggy know how grateful I am for her style and ability to make yoga a part of my everyday life.

I LOVE YOUR DVD, I am actually a snowboarder/mountain biker in the summer who lives in Whistler BC. I moved to Maui for a year to study massage and learned how to surf. I saw my question printed in your April newsletter and wanted to let you know since we spoke I really took on board what you said and last weekend had a bit of a break through with my surfing!!

I haven’t had many opportunities to surf since we spoke. However this last weekend surfed three days in a row. I had a different attitude and a lot more confidence. I was able to paddle out with confidence in a location I would usually not surf, however the conditions were right and I managed to catch wave after wave and was getting to my feet a lot faster and riding the waves!!

There has been no surf since but I’m amping to get back out there!!!

I do YFS II 4-5 times a week & am still thoroughly loving it! You’re so motivating & positive – a great start to my day.

Everyone on my dragonboat team had to do a fit test at the beginning of our winter training season in January. My max bench press weight was 155 lbs (this didn’t mean anything to me – but apparently that’s good according to my coach) – I know this was mainly a result of doing yoga on a regular basis – thx to YFS!!

We start paddling practice next week on the water – can’t wait. YFS is a regular part of my life & fitness training. Thank you!

I actually heard about your yoga series from various surf people in my area. I bought YFS I from the store and saw there were two more. I rented a download version of YFS II from TotalVid online. I really liked it and was looking for it in some stores, but decided it would be easier to order online. And, instead of ordering from Amazon or ebay or wherever I decided to order straight from you. I've only taken one surf lesson in my life in January 2006 when visiting Maui, but I found that Yoga For Surfers really helped improve my overall balance, flexibility and endurance in other sports too like volleyball.

Just a short note to offer again my thanks and appreciation. Your great Yoga for Surfers DVD's have been an inspiration to me! It’s now been just shy of a year and the results not only with surfing but my other passion, tennis, is remarkable. I feel stronger and most importantly, the flexibility which I had in my 20's and 30's is back!! Surfing year round in New England, especially in winter when water temps hit 38 degrees demands a lot of flexibility. I use your breathing exercises and the yoga breathing at work, during big tennis points and always when I am paddling back out to the lineup.

I've been doing Yoga for Surfers for two years now and I'd first like to say thank you very much for bringing out the DVDs. You wouldn't believe how much fitter I am than two years ago - and of course, the increased fitness has improved my surfing immensely.

I've been alternating between YFS II and YFS III and I'm just wondering if you are planning on brining out a YFS IV? If not, what suggestions do you have for mixing up my routine with a little bit of variety?

I heard about the video from my sister in law who received it at a health expo a while ago. I first saw YFS I, did it before surfing. Then I got YFS II and started doing it in the mornings. The video was passed around to friends who surf and ended up getting scratched.

Three weeks ago I moved to Lake Tahoe from Newport Beach and I haven't found a gym or surfed and I need to reconnect out here. I am a big fan of you and Peggy and I think your product is great. It helps me in so many ways.

Dear Peggy and Dave:

I am 46 years old and have been surfing since I was 13. This year on my annual March jaunt to Costa Rica I began to have pretty severe low back pain for the first time in my life. While I exercise fairly regularly, the last couple of years I have noticed some diminishment of flexibility.

Well it has been two months since I received your DVD's and I feel an amazing transformation in my body and flexibility. Although the water is beginning to warm up in RI most of my surfing is in cold water and colder weather. I regularly do YFS 1 and 2 and always do YFS 2 on days where I am not surfing or playing tennis. My strained pelvis injury which was giving me back pain is gone thanks to you!

The good news is my wife who regularly runs and plays a lot of tennis is also addicted to YFS 1 and 2. Hopefully I will be ready for YFS 3 soon. Looking forward to YFS 4. If you are ever in RI, which believe it or not has some of the most beautiful beaches, please give us a call.

I purchased Yoga for surfers II about a year ago when I started surfing and it really has helped me. I am loaning it to a friend this summer and don't want to be without my yoga so I ordered the whole series to learn something new. I usually surf in the winter months and go to Hawaii once a year for ten days to surf at Christmas. I know the yoga really helps and want to pass the knowledge on to my friends. I'm a huge fan of Yoga for Surfers. Everything about it is true. Yoga is the best thing ever. It has changed my life so much, whenever I need to search for meaning in myself I do it, and I find it, you have no idea how important to me that is. I am also influenced greatly in life by music, and the music in your video is so peaceful, and relaxing, I love it. It says it is by Esperanza. I was wondering if they had a CD out so I can listen to it in my car on my way out to the beach to set the mood for a great surf session. Hi Peggy & David: I was originally introduced to the Yoga For Surfers Series when I checked out Yoga For Surfers I from my local library. I was so impressed with the results (particularly how the Post-Surf Session reduced the stiffness and soreness associated with a multi hour surf session) that I decided to order the entire series. I'm really glad I did.

Having been an avid gym enthusiast for the past 10 years I must admit to being somewhat skeptical when you described the Fluid Power Yoga routine as "challenging" and "rigorous". My typical gym workout involves about 40 minutes of strength training followed by 20 - 30 minutes of cardio. I figured, "no sweat, I'm in shape".

It didn't take me long to learn that the Vinyasa Flow routine is indeed both "challenging" and "rigorous" since it involves engaging virtually all of the body's muscle groups simultaneously while a traditional gym workout involves isolating/targeting a specific muscle(s) individually. For me the additional need for balance, flexibility and mental focus combine to make the routine a much better choice than a gym workout for flat days since it incorporates more of the ingredients needed in surfing. Strength, balance, flexibility and mental focus.

I've been doing the Vinyasa Flow Routine three or four times per week for five months now. Although I'm no longer the quivering, sweating profusely, mouth breather that I was, I continue to find it challenging and rewarding. It took me a few weeks to get fully aligned, first with the choreography (I'm a dance instructors worst nightmare) and get all the muscles firing properly during the poses. When I had those two things down it freed me up enough to concentrate on your breathing instructions and wow, that's when I really felt like I crossed a threshold. I've noticed increased endurance, flexibility and balance. I tend to be a little bit on the "hyper" side and I think that my yoga practice has also aided in tempering that tendency. Good deal!

Thanks for including the Bonus section on Increasing Lung Capacity. I always include your breathing techniques with my Pre-Surf Warm Up and it has improved my endurance especially during paddle outs.

Now I'm looking forward to getting into Yoga for Surfers III. Having viewed it several times I'm stoked to see that it will challenge me to take my yoga practice to the next level.

The entire Yoga for Surfers Series is an impressive, totally professional package in terms of your abilities as personal instructor, production, editing and soundtrack quality. The inclusion of Taylor, Rochelle, Tom and other top surfers really adds a dimension of "surfer cred". I’m convinced that any surfer or non surfer of any age would benefit from the series.

I turned 56 in August(!) and have been surfing since 1965. My quiver ranges in size from a 6'0" - 9'1" I enjoy matching equipment to conditions and love the variety of sensations that riding different boards provides. After all this time something new and exciting still happens every time I paddle out. Going forward The Yoga For Surfers Series will continue to be an important ingredient in the lifestyle I've chosen in the hopes of staying fit, healthy, whole and surfing for a long time to come.

Just purchased YFS II already have I and III still new to yoga but really enjoying it. The Vinyasa flow sequence in II is uh… intense and I can’t do it all the way through yet, whimpering (in a manly way Smiley emoticon) by about half way through, but I’ll stick with it. I have to say I like the spinal warm up in YFS II very much, I am finding it lower impact for early morning than the pre-surf section in YFS I.

Amazing videos! I have studied various martial arts for years, and I have to say for feeling the stoke your systems/routines I am finding superior for my particular body type and my surfing is definitely improving.

I am a 49 year old male and been surfing since I was 14...tried everything to look after a bit of a back problem and stay loose but yoga is the one thing that works and has so many other benefits as well. I've had lower back pain for about 12 years. I surf and work for the LA County Fire Department. About three years ago I injured it really bad on a fire. The orthopedic told me that if I don't start doing something they will have to operate. I found YFS II at Tower Records soon after and have been doing it at the fire house and home three times a week for about two years now. After about three months of doing your dvd I seriously felt no pain. My back feels like it did when I was 18! I always recommend it to the guys on my job. Many have come back to tell me what I already know. It has been the miracle cure. As long as I stay consistent with it I have no discomfort. Thank you so much!

A friend at the firestation had one of your videos. We are finding that with the amount of back injuries in our department, yoga may be the answer for our physical training. It seems most of us lack flexibility and core strength. Yoga is a trend that is growing in the fire department. None of us want to retire early because of an injury.

A friend of mine worked over in the Caribbean on motor yachts and came back with one of your dvds, so we started doing it and loved it, especially in summer when we get a lot of onshore and the waves are small. The dvds really help to keep the strength and flexibility going for when the waves pick up again.

The men in our lives also enjoy doing your dvds as they feature other male surfers... whereas if they go to classes here there are mainly only girls which they find quite intimidating. Thanks, we really enjoy it and will spread the word!

My wife and I were curious about yoga and were looking into classes when a friend mentioned he had this video that he watches and performs yoga to increase his surfing ability. I had actually taught him to surf three years ago and still mentor him when he

Since then I have gone to various classes and rented several videos however nothing seems to compare and your video is exactly what I'm looking for. Just wanted to express my appreciation for the YFS series! Recently discovered - just in time for a 14 day snowboarding trip - a perfect way to get my boyfriend doing a bit of yoga, without me having to actually show him and miss out on my own practice. We both did YFS 1 every day before and after hitting the mountain, and I did YFS 2 after that most days. We both felt great, no stiffness at all and it helped my injured knee. It made our holiday more chilled, too - the beautiful music and excellent instruction is relaxing and helps you take the time needed in each pose, with just enough instruction - you don't ever feel you are being ordered around or given too much instruction. I think it is amazing how you have managed to ensure the instructions are clear but you don't feel it is aimed at the complete beginner - I have used pilates DVDs in the past that are so focused on the first time user they are frustrating to use more than once or twice, whereas the YFS DVDs can easily be used over and over. I have done ashtanga yoga for several years, but have got a bit bored of it - I was doing my own self practice as there were no good classes available, especially not when I am on windsurfing / surfing / snowboarding trips. One of the many wonderful aspects of YFS is its total portability. It is also nice to know that everything in there is directly aimed at your needs as a surfer / windsurfer

Anyway, thanks! Have you considered coming to the UK for some workshops? I would love to do a real live class sometime and I’m sure Cornwall / Wales is full of surfers who would also be keen!
